REPORT: Miami’s Lucas receives contract extension

According to an AP report, Miami has extended and given a raise to head basketball coach Jai Lucas following his impressive first season with the Hurricanes. Lucas inherited a team that went 7-24 the previous year and, despite having no returning players, led Miami to a 26-9 record, a 13-5 ACC mark, and an NCAA Tournament victory over Missouri.

Lucas, who was hired in March 2025 for his first head coaching job, had four years remaining on his original contract but reportedly drew interest from other programs after Miami’s turnaround. The extension comes around the same time Miami finalized a new deal with football coach Mario Cristobal.
