Villanova has fired men’s basketball coach Kyle Neptune after three seasons, marking the end of a tenure without an NCAA tournament appearance. This was first reported by Villanova’s student newspaper, The Villanovan and later confirmed by ESPN.
Neptune, who succeeded Hall of Famer Jay Wright in 2022, struggled to maintain Villanova’s strong basketball tradition, finishing with a 54-47 record. Despite a late-season push, the Wildcats failed to secure a tournament berth, with losses to Georgetown and UConn sealing their fate. Neptune’s tenure was marred by inconsistent performances, early-season struggles, and losses to local rivals. Before his head coaching role, Neptune was an assistant under Wright and briefly coached at Fordham.
Villanova’s search for a new coach is now underway.
