According to a report from the Santa Fe New Mexican, NAIA Northern New Mexico College has fired head men’s basketball coach and AD Ryan Cordova. This comes following Cordova’s suspension earlier this fall, and a subsequent investigation.
Interim NNMC President and AD Barbara Medina confirmed Cordova’s dismissal to The New Mexican via text message Friday evening. She also confirmed he had been terminated “for cause” without offering details, texting, “I have no comment on personnel matters.”
Cordova started the men’s basketball program at NNMC 12-seasons ago. He will be replaced on an interim basis by associate head coach Jesus Aragon.
Also, according to the report, Cordova has been unavailable for comment during the investigation, citing a gag order issued by the school.
Aragon is in his first season at Northern New Mexico. He has previously been coaching in Mexico, and has also worked in the ABA and PBA.
NNMC lost their season opener last night to Bethel College (KS), 89-76.
