According to an ESPN report, Penny Hardaway has agreed to a deal to become the next head basketball coach at Memphis. He would replace Tubby Smith who was fired last week after two seasons with the Tigers.
Hardaway is a Memphis native who was a standout for the Tigers before being selected with the 3rd overall pick in the 1993 draft. After wrapping up a 14- year NBA career, the four-time all star became a high school and AAU coach in Memphis. He recently won his third straight State Championship as the head coach at East High School.
A press conference is expected on Tuesday.
