According to multiple reports, including one from the Indy Star, Mike Woodson will return as the head basketball coach next season.
Despite a disappointing 2023-24 season, Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson will return next season, an IU athletic department source told IndyStar
Woodson, an IU alum and longtime NBA coach and player, has struggled in his third season at his alma mater. The 65-year old Woodson won 21 games in his first season, and 23 in his second, but the Hoosiers have taken a step back this season and are currently 16-13 (8-10 Big Ten). Overall during his tenure at Indiana, Woodson is 60-39 and just 29-29 in the Big Ten.
Feeling the heat for much of the past six weeks, Woodson made the following statement back on February 20th on his radio show, “I’m almost 66 but I feel good and still move around, and I think I still think well in terms of the game, and I still think I can teach the game.” He added, “I’ll take it a day at a time, a year at a time. I’m not going anywhere any time soon, guys, I’m just not.”
Today’s reports seem to cement what Woodson said back on 2/20 – he’s not going anywhere.
