Roach promoted to Assistant Basketball Coach at D2 Carson-Newman

Carson-Newman head men’s basketball coach Chuck Benson has announced the promotion of Case Roach to be the program’s assistant coach.

Roach joined the staff as a graduate assistant last month, and has been elevated to a full-time assistant following the transition of Camden McElhaney from C-N’s coaching staff to the athletic department’s new Director of NCAA Compliance.

Roach played basketball at fellow South Atlantic Conference school Anderson last year after spending his first four seasons collegiately at North Georgia.

“Obviously, with the departure of Camden McElhaney in his administrative role in the athletic department, we have we felt like we needed to make a decision on a limited timeframe,” Benson said. “The obvious solution was to promote Case. I’m happy for Case, and I’m excited to watch his development as we move forward.”

Roach scored 343 points in his basketball career across 88 career games.  He was a member of North Georgia’s Elite Eight run in 2023-24. He appeared in 34 games that season for the Nighthawks averaging 3.2 points per game on 43 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from three.  He averaged 6.2 points and three boards per game as a junior for the Nighthawks.

Roach was a four-time all-region selection, two-time all-state and two-time all-county honoree at Travelers Rest High School.  A two-time region champion, he was the region player of the year and second all-time in scoring for TRHS.

The son of Bill and Wendy Roach, his father won a 1-AA national championship in 1988 as a member of the Furman football team.
