Rudolph joins UMass Dartmouth Basketball staff

Brian Rudolph been named as an assistant men’s basketball coach at UMass Dartmouth for the 2022-23 season. Rudolph is a local Division I product who has competed on the highest levels of the sport.

A native of New Bedford, Mass., Rudolph was a standout player at New Bedford High School, where he remains the only player in school history to total more than 1,200 points, 600 assists and 200 steals. Rudolph went on to be a four-year starter at Loyola University (Md.). While there, he played in 124 games on his career and was tabbed the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2008. He averaged 7.21 points and 4.25 assists on his career, and currently sits second in program history with 527 career assists. He graduated from Loyola in 2011 with Bachelor’s in Communications.

Rudolph has been a member of the Cape Verde National Basketball Team, and participated in AfroBasket 2013 and AfroBasket 2015, which served as the qualifying rounds for the 2016 Rio Olympics. In 2013, he averaged 11.9 points and 5.5 assists per game for Cape Verde.

Rudolph remains deeply involved with the New Bedford Public Schools, where he helped to coach the Whalers’ basketball players since his return to the South Coast, and has coached at camps and clinics at Siena College, Providence College and his alma mater.
