The search to replace Lamont Smith at San Diego is in full swing. Some of the names that I’ve heard there are:

• Rick Croy – Head Coach Cal Baptist. Led the Lancers to a 28-6 record this past season. Has been an assistant at St. Mary’s and Cal Riverside. Was also the head coach at Citrus College (CA).

• Eran Ganot – Head Coach Hawaii. Another former assistant at WCC foe St. Mary’s. Has been the head coach at Hawaii since 2015 (68-35). Best season came in 15-16 when Rainbow Warriors won 27 games.

• Jeff Linder – Head Coach Northern Colorado. His Bears are currently 24-12 and still alive in the CIT. Has gone 35-30 in two seasons at UNC. Former assistant at Boise State, San Francisco, and Weber State.

• Sam Scholl – Current Acting Head Coach San Diego. Named acting head coach on 2/28 and led the Toreros to a CIT appearance (where they were knocked out by Northern Colorado). Is a former player at USD and is in his second stint on the staff there. Also spent eight seasons as an assistant at Santa Clara.

• Rex Walters – Former head coach San Francisco and Florida Atlantic, current Detroit Pistons assistant. Former Kansas standout spent seven seasons in the NBA as a player. Was the head coach at San Francisco (2008-16), and FAU (2006-08).
