Saturday Dirt – 4/11/15

Saturday Dirt from the HD World Headquarters…

  • Yesterday I mentioned the names that I have heard as candidates to replace Will Wade at Chattanooga (http://hoopdirt.com/tennessee-chattanooga-dirt/).  I have now heard that there are two more to add to that list: Georgia assistant Philip Pearson and VCU assistant Jeremy Ballard.  Pearson was a long-time Alabama assistant who served as the interim head coach there for the second half of the 2009 season.  Ballard was with Shaka Smart at VCU last season – it is still unclear if he is headed to Texas with Smart.
  • I can confirm that DIII Blackburn College (IL) head coach Jason Baribeau has resigned.  In four seasons at the school, Baribeau compiled a 17-83 record (6-19 in 2014-15).  Before coming to Blackburn, Baribeau was an assistant at Nebraska Wesleyan.
  • I have heard that Brown Makie JC (KS) will hire Bryson Flax as their new head coach.  He has been an assistant there for the past four seasons, and would replace his father, Francis Flax.  The recently retired Flax the elder started the basketball program at Brown Mackie 23-years ago, and won two national titles (1999 and 2005).  Makes sense to keep this one in the family.
