– The Knights men’s basketball team defeated the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners 104-96 in double overtime to improve to 5-0 on the season and earn Head Coach Scott Moe his 300th career win with the team in 17 years at the helm.
The Knights were led by Darrell White with a game-high 28 points while Tyrone Young got his 3rd double-double of the season with 19 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Antony Edwards (17 points) and Michael Graham (15) were the only other Knights in double-digits for the game while Graham had a game-high 3 steals.
The Knights trailed by 1 at half with the Mariners going up 36-35 on a jumper with 8 seconds remaining and trailed by 10 with 5:18 remaining in the second half. A 15-4 run by the Knights gave them the lead with 1:07 left at 82-81 but the Mariners missed a free throw and each team missed a jumper in the final 45 seconds to leave the game tied at 82 headed to overtime. The first overtime was a 10-10 tie as both teams led at some point but after falling behind 94-92 in the first 14 seconds of the second overtime, the Knights outscored the Mariners 12-2 to close out the win.
The win puts the team at 5-0 which is the best start as a member of the NAIA since the team went 5-1 to start the 2016-17 season in which they lost the opener and reeled off 5 straight wins to get to the mark. The Knights will look to continue to build on their early season success when they open Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) play on Thursday, November 29 when they host the Blue Mountain College (MS) Toppers following the women’s game at 5:30 PM then host the Bethel University (TN) Wildcats on Saturday, December 1 following the women’s 1 PM tipoff.
