Shane Heirman Named Assistant Basketball Coach at DePaul

DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced that Shane Heirman joined the staff as an assistant coach. Heirman joins the Blue Demons after leading national prep power La Lumiere School for the last three seasons.

“Shane Heirman has coached at a very high level of success against the top high school and prep programs in the country,” said Leitao. “As a native of the Chicago area, he’s not only established locally in the basketball community, but he’s also recruited players from across the country to La Lumiere. His enthusiasm and coaching abilities provide our program an upgrade with our current roster and out on the recruiting trail building the program for the future.”

Heirman led La Lumiere to the 2017 Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals and No. 1 ranking in the USA TODAY Super 25. In his three seasons at La Lumiere he totaled a record of 82-7 that also included a runner-up finish in the Dick’s Nationals and No. 3 final ranking in 2015-16.

DePaul freshmen Brandon Cyrus and Al Eichelberger played for Heirman at La Lumiere. Overall, Heirman coached 23 players that went on to play NCAA Division I basketball and a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans. He is a Chicagoland native that attended Marian Central Catholic High School before playing college basketball at Tulsa from 2008-11.

Heirman replaces former assistant coach Patrick Sellers who left the program to pursue other opportunities.
