Fresno Pacific head men’s basketball coach C.J. Haydock has announced the addition of A.J. Shearonto his coaching staff. Shearon comes to FPU after coaching locally at Liberty High School – Bakersfield where he led the Patriots to three league championships and one valley title.
“We are thrilled with the addition of A.J. to our staff,” said Haydock. “A.J. is a natural addition and extension of our philosophy and vision. His faith and values, his cerebral approach to the game, his work ethic and his passion for seeing young men grow in all facets equip him to serve our program in a profound way. Having observed firsthand A.J. cultivate and grow the Liberty culture gives me great confidence that he is aligned with our program and university mission in a way that will reap great benefits. I am thrilled beyond measure to have A.J. alongside as we grow our program.”
Shearon most recently served as the head varsity coach at Liberty the last six seasons. He posted an overall record of 119-58, which included a Central Section Division II title in 2010.
“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the FPU family,” said Shearon. “I believe strongly in the ongoing vision of FPU Director of Athletics Aaron Henderson and Head Men’s Basketball Coach C.J. Haydock. We will work daily to be a team that our alumni, students and the valley as a whole can support and enjoy.”
Shearon began his coaching career at Liberty in 2005, where he spent five seasons in various roles as an assistant, head coach of the junior varsity program and co-head coach of the varsity team. He graduated from CSU Bakersfield with a degree in history.
Shearon will join Haydock in looking to build upon a program that went 14-13 last season, a five-win improvement from the previous year.
The FPU men’s basketball program has a rich tradition, most recently posting a string of five seasons with 19 wins or more from 2007-2013. The program’s lengthy list of successful alumni includes longtime NBA coach Ron Adams, currently with the Golden State Warriors.
Haydock became the head coach on April 4 and has moved quickly to assemble his staff. Shearon will be the lead assistant coach and will join current assistant Jason Lefore on staff.
