MCLA Director of Athletics Laura Mooney has announced that Anthony Skiffington will serve as the interim head coach of the men’s basketball program, effective today. Skiffington replaces former head coach Jamie Morrison, who resigned earlier this month.

“The department is excited for Coach Skiffington to serve as the interim head coach for the 15-16 season and for him to build on the foundation and past success of Coach Morrison,” Mooney stated.

Skiffington was the top assistant coach on Morrison’s staff for the past five seasons at MCLA. He has been involved in game and practice planning, recruiting, and all other phases of the men’s basketball program. Skiffington has a long history of coaching: he’s been involved in various levels of coaching, including high school and youth programs.

Skiffington was a key component of the coaching staff that led MCLA to the MASCAC playoffs for five consecutive seasons. The program also reached the semifinal round of the 2011 ECAC New England Championships, and advanced to and hosted the 2013 MASCAC Championship.

MCLA men’s basketball season opens on Friday, Nov. 13, when the Trailblazers travel to Bennington, Vt., to battle the Southern Vermont Mountaineers. Skiffington and the Trailblazers will open at home on Sunday, Nov. 15 against Norwich.
