Jay Modi has been named an assistant coach for the Sarah Lawrence men’s basketball program, announced by head coach Chris Ehmer. Modi joins the Gryphons following a stint at Lehman College.
Modi helped coach the Lightening to a 22-5 record in 2017-18, their most wins in school history, while posting a 15-1 mark in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The season featured a 14-game winning streak, and an appearance in the CUNYAC championship game.
Modi assisted in the growth of Luis Hernandez, Andrew Utate and Mylo Mitchell, as the trio earned CUNY All-Stars accolades. At the end of the season, Hernandez received All-Met and NABC All-District honors, and was named to the D3Hoops.com All-Region squad.
A native of Ramat Gan, Israel, Modi was a four-year letter winner for Lehman from 2010-13, appearing in 70 games with 20 starts. As a senior, he helped the Lightening to their first winning campaign (14-13) since the 2008-09 season.
A 2014 graduate, Modi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He earned a Computer Programming Certificate from Westchester Community College in 2017 and began his studies to earn a Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 2018.
