SLC Men’s Basketball Adds Jay Modi as Top Assistant

Jay Modi has been named an assistant coach for the Sarah Lawrence men’s basketball program, announced by head coach Chris Ehmer. Modi joins the Gryphons following a stint at Lehman College.

Modi helped coach the Lightening to a 22-5 record in 2017-18, their most wins in school history, while posting a 15-1 mark in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The season featured a 14-game winning streak, and an appearance in the CUNYAC championship game.

Modi assisted in the growth of Luis Hernandez, Andrew Utate and Mylo Mitchell, as the trio earned CUNY All-Stars accolades. At the end of the season, Hernandez received All-Met and NABC All-District honors, and was named to the All-Region squad.

A native of Ramat Gan, Israel, Modi was a four-year letter winner for Lehman from 2010-13, appearing in 70 games with 20 starts. As a senior, he helped the Lightening to their first winning campaign (14-13) since the 2008-09 season.

A 2014 graduate, Modi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He earned a Computer Programming Certificate from Westchester Community College in 2017 and began his studies to earn a Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 2018.
