Sitting at my oldest son’s AAU tournament all weekend. Here are two quick things that I’ve heard while watching him bury three’s, but be afraid to go hard to the basket…
- Multiple sources have told me that new Randolph-Macon head coach Josh Merkel will hire Josh King and Dave Matturro as assistant coaches. King is currently the director of the Hoop Group Elite Camp. Before coming to the Hoop Group, he was an assistant at Marshall for four seasons, and also worked at UMass-Lowell. Matturro became an assistant at Shenandoah last spring. He was also a GA at VCU and and the DBO at Siena and Mount St. Mary’s.
- I have heard from a great source that Alex Tyrrell will become the head coach at Vermont Tech. The current Iowa Lakes CC assistant is a Vermont Tech alum. The native of Australia captained the Men’s basketball team at Vermont Tech to back-to-back YSCC Conference Championships and three USCAA National Championship appearances. Tyrrell’s senior season he scored this 1000th point and was awarded YSCC First-Team All-Conference, USCAA First-Team All-American, and Vermont Tech’s Male Athlete of the Year.
- Added earlier today: Central Florida Dirt and Louisian Tech’s choice to replace Michael White.
