Bloomsburg University’s first-year men’s basketball head coach Chris Bess announced the newest addition to the program this week with the hiring of assistant coach Isaiah Smiley. 

Smiley will reunite with Bess as the two previously served together on Edinboro University’s women’s basketball coaching staff. Smiley was a student assistant coach from 2018-2021 for the Fighting Scots while Bess was an assistant coach. 

Prior to being a student assistant coach for the women’s team at Edinboro, Smiley was a special assistant to the coaching staff for the men’s team from 2016 to 2018. 

Smiley will be joining the Huskies program after serving one year as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Penn State University’s Shenango Campus. During his one season Shenango, Smiley assisted in the development of one All-Conference and one academic All-American in addition to his day-to-day responsibilities as an assistant coach.

Smiley is a 2021 graduate from Edinboro University, which is where he earned a degree in communication studies. 

The men’s basketball team will open its 2022-23 season with a home game against Chestnut Hill on November 16.
