Andre Smith has announced that he is resigning as head men’s basketball coach at Lourdes University effective immediately.
The only head coach in program history, Smith coached the Gray Wolves for six seasons, compiling a 94-92 record. He guided Lourdes to the NAIA Division II national tournament in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013, with the 2012-2013 squad setting a school record with 22 victories.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here and it’s truly been an honor to work with the fine student-athletes,” Smith sated. “I want to thank each player that devoted their time, energy, and effort into this program. We will always be a family. I want to thank the entire coaching staff for the countless hours of hard work and dedication in making this journey special. I want to give a special thanks to Roseanne Gill-Jacobson and the Lourdes community for giving me this opportunity six years ago.”
During his tenure at Lourdes, Smith produced a NAIA Second Team All-American, three First Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference selections, and three WHAC All-Defensive Team picks. The 2012-2013 WHAC Coach of the Year, he also had a Third Team All-WHAC selection, four Honorable Mention All-WHAC honorees, and four members of the WHAC All-Newcomer Team.
In the classroom, Smith produced four CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team selections and seven WHAC All-Academic Team members.
A search to fill the head coaching job will begin immediately.
