Spruance Named Assistant at Lewis University

Lewis University head men’s basketball coach Scott Trost has promoted John Spruance to assistant coach after spending the previous two seasons as a volunteer. Spruance replaces associate head coach Adam DeMong who has accepted a job in the private sector.

“It was a natural progression to elevate John (Spruance) and I thought it was important to keep some continuity on our staff,” Trost said. “He has been involved in all aspects of our program the last two years and has done a fantastic job with those responsibilities.”

Trost also appreciates the contributions of DeMong during his tenure.

“I would like to thank Adam for all his hard work and dedication to this program, because he was a big part of our success that we enjoyed,” Trost said. “I wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavor.”

In Spruance’s two seasons on staff, Lewis has recorded an overall record of 43-15 (.741), including its 14th NCAA Tournament bid last year. He will be responsible for recruiting, scouting, game preparation and player development.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity that Coach Trost has given me,” Spruance said. “Both he and Adam (DeMong) have taught me many valuable lessons in my time here and I look forward to helping contribute to the success that we have built here and work with this great team.”
