St. Joe’s Basketball Staff Update

Saint Joseph’s Head Coach Billy Lange has announced that Justin Scott has been elevated to associate head coach and Thomas Boyle has been promoted to assistant coach.

“Maintaining continuity and retention amongst staff members is paramount in the development of our program. Justin and Toe are worthy of their elevations and promotions as they have been loyal, resilient and passionate stewards of their opportunities on Hawk Hill,” said Lange. “They have gained the respect of our team and staff through their diligence, servant mindset and priority on relationships and mentorship.”

Capping his fourth season as an assistant coach on Hawk Hill, Scott has served a multitude of roles for the program including coordination of the team’s situational strategies, player development, scouting and recruiting. Additionally, the Philadelphia native has been an intricate part of the The Leadership Initiative and Hawk Hill Hoops Academy which align with the program’s focus on holistic development and serving the community. Scott, who will serve as recruiting coordinator in his new role, replaces John Griffin III, who recently was named head coach at Bucknell.

Recently completing his fifth season as a member of the St. Joe’s coaching staff and second as director of basketball operations, Boyle has been responsible for the Hawks’ video and data for game preparation, statistical analysis, and research projects. Boyle has also assisted with in-game assessments as well as overseeing the Hawks’ graduate manager program. A 2015 (bachelor’s degree) and 2018 (MBA) graduate of Saint Joseph’s, Boyle continues a storied family history on Hawk Hill as he is the grandson of former SJU coaches Jim Lynam and the late Jim Boyle.

“In working with University Leadership and Athletic Administration, we continue to form strategic initiatives and models to enhance our staff for the current landscape of college basketball,” Lange said.
