Stetson assistant headed to NBA G League

Stetson assistant coach Jonathan Mitchell announced today on Twitter that he is leaving the Hatters program and will become an assistant with the NBA G League’s Birmingham Squadron (New Orleans Pelicans).

Mitchell, who played at both Florida and Rutgers, had spent the past three seasons on Donnie Jones’ staff at Stetson. He spent time as a graduate assistant at Georgia under Tom Crean before that.

The 2006 New York State Gatorade Player of the Year was a member of Florida’s 2007 NCAA Championship squad. He spent two years with the Gators before transferring to Rutgers. Following his collegiate career, he played for seven years in several European countries including Spain, Israel, France, Greece, Hungary and Iceland.
