Steve Thomas joins the Spider basketball staff as its new Director of Basketball Operations in 2015-16. He will have a role in directing camps, coordinating team activities and facilitating all recruiting material.
“We are excited to add Steve Thomas to our hard-working staff,” head coach Chris Mooney said. “He brings a wealth of experience and professionalism, and will work well with our staff to enhance our program.”
Thomas comes to Richmond from Virginia Tech where he served as Director of Student-Athlete Development. He worked for one year there after coming from Oregon as a graduate assistant on their basketball staff.
Thomas has worked with US Junior Nationals Inc., one of the nation’s largest grassroots basketball event organizations. He also served as a special projects consultant with Nike Global Basketball Sports Marketing.
He is a 2006 graduate of Rowan University in New Jersey with a degree in advertising and communications and earned a master’s degree from the University of Oregon in educational leadership in 2014.
Thomas is replacing former player and Director of Operations Kevin Smith, who took a position as an assistant coach at Campbell.
