SWAC DIRT: Mississippi Valley State’s Hunter placed on leave

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Mississippi Valley State head men’s basketball coach Lindsey Hunter has been placed on leave by the university. He will be replaced for the rest of the season by former Arkansas-Pine Bluff head coach George Ivory.

Hunter has been at MVSU for the past three seasons, where he has compiled a 7-72 record (including 2-23 so far this season). He was the 10th pick in the 1993 NBA draft, and played in the league until 2010. During his 17-year NBA career, Hunter recorded 7,956 points and won two championships. Hunter also served as an assistant in the NBA with the Suns and Warriors after his playing career ended.

Ivory spent 2008-21 as the head coach at SWAC foe UAPB. He put together a 140–269 record, and went 116-115 in the league during that time. Ivory played at MVSU (1984-88), and had two stints as an assistant there.

No reason has been given for Hunter’s suspension. He will be paid during his rip.
