Tarleton’s Billy Gillispie to be away from team indefinitely

Billy Gillispie’s absence from his team has now been termed indefinite in an updated release from Tarleton State. Back on 11/19, TSU released a statement saying that Gillispie would miss the SoCal Challenge this week due to “medical circumstances.” Today’s release paints a new picture:

Due to medical circumstances, Tarleton State men’s basketball head coach Billy Gillispie will be away from the team indefinitely.

Assistant coach Joseph Jones will lead the Texans until Gillispie’s return. Jones led Tarleton State in Gillispie’s absence this past week during the SoCal Challenge. The Texans won the Sand Division Championship with victories over Austin Peay and Cal State Bakersfield.

Following the 11/19 statement, Gillispie told the Dallas Morning News; “The procedure will be done ASAP and should allow me to get back to coaching soon. I will not be on the sideline short-term, but by not allowing the situation to worsen, I should be back on the bench doing what I love the most in a timely fashion.”

More on this situation as it continues to develop.
