Casper College has hired Tyler Hurley as the school’s new assistant men’s basketball coach. Hurley, who replaced Kevon Davis, served as second assistant for the Thunderbirds during the 2015-16 season.
“We are very happy to have Tyler Hurley as an assistant coach of our program. He has done a great job recruiting, scouting, and developing our players that we have here at Casper College during his first year with us,” says Dan Russell, head coach.
A native of Anaconda, Montana, Hurley played two years at the University of Montana under current Oregon State Head Coach Wayne Tinkle from 2007-2009. He finished his basketball career at Montana Western in Dillon, Montana, under Montana Hall of Fame coach Steve Keller. Hurley helped his team to 72 wins, one conference championship, and three consecutive National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournaments.
Before coming to Casper College, Hurley was the head basketball coach at St. Regis High School in St. Regis, Montana, for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons in which the team compiled an overall record of 30-15. “The game of basketball has been my entire life for as long as I can remember,” says Hurley. “I was given the opportunity to begin my college-coaching career at Casper College last season, and the knowledge I have gained, and my growth as a coach, would not be possible had I not been given that opportunity,” he says, adding, “it is my desire to provide the finest assistance to a collegiate basketball program, while winning games, and I believe that at Casper College, I can do this.”
“Tyler is a terrific worker and has a really good understanding of the college game. He does everything you would want in an assistant with his strength being that he does everything well, and that’s what we expect here at Casper College. You recruit, you coach, you develop and you scout,” Russell says.
Davis, who was the Thunderbirds assistant coach during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, has taken a Special Assistant to the Head Coach position at the University of Cal-Poly in the Big West Conference for Head Coach Joe Callero.
