UMBC head men’s basketball coach Ryan Odom announced enhancements to his staff for the 2017-18 academic year.
Coach Odom named Griff Aldrich the program’s director of recruiting and program development. In addition, Malcolm Brent and Jake Brudish will serve as graduate managers.
Assistant coaches Nate Dixon, Eric Skeeters and Bryce Crawford all return for their second seasons on the sidelines.
Aldrich, who joined the staff in April of 2016 as director of basketball operations, will now be responsible for coordinating the program’s recruiting efforts while also assisting the head coach with implementing key program initiatives. He will also retain certain operational roles and responsibilities.
“Griff has been tremendous for our staff, players, and athletics department,” said Odom. “This title change is representative of his hard work, attention to detail, and passion for helping our student-athletes grow as students, men, and leaders on campus.”
Brent, who earned his undergraduate degree in economics in May of 2017, is pursuing a master’s degree in historical studies at UMBC. From 2014-17, he competed in 64 games, starting 23, and converted the sixth-most treys (48) of any UMBC freshman in school history. Brent averaged 7.0 points per game as a freshman and 4.4 points per game in his career.
Brudish, who just completed his bachelor’s degree at SMU, competed on the hardwood for two seasons under Hall of Fame Coach Larry Brown. The Annapolis, Md. native played at St. Mary’s (Md.) High School before beginning his collegiate career at the University of Rochester in the fall of 2013. He is pursuing a master’s degree in management of aging services from UMBC.
“I’m extremely excited about the additions to our staff in Malcolm and Jake,” said Odom. “Malcolm was a key member of our first team at UMBC and will transition into a different role that I’m confident will benefit our program. We are also fortunate to add Jake as he is extremely passionate about basketball and is eager to serve our players and staff. Having grown up in a coaching family and having played for Hall of Fame Coach Larry Brown, he brings a wealth of experience that will serve our players and program very well.”
