University of Rochester Hires Assistants

The University of Rochester men’s basketball team announced on Tuesday the appointment of two new assistant coaches in advance of the 2015-16 season.

Griffin LaDew and Tim McLaughlin have been named the new assistants replacing Jeff Juron and Dan Bozzelli on the Rochester sidelines.  Juron recently was named the new head coach at Suffolk University while Bozzelli left UR to accept an assistant coach position at DePauw University.

LaDew brings with him five years of coaching experience at the college level along with four years of playing experience in NCAA Division III.  He worked the previous five seasons at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where he was an assistant coach from 2010-12 before moving to an Associate Head Coaching role for the past three years.

While on the sidelines at Rhodes, LaDew and his fellow coaches guided the Lynx to a 76-56 overall record (.576), including Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular season titles in 2012-13 and 2014-15.  The Lynx recorded their first 20-win season in 2014-15 in over two decades and were in the top-50 in NCAA Division III in scoring defense the past four seasons.

LaDew coached 15 All-Conference athletes, had a player selected to the NABC Senior All-Star Game and contributed to the recruitment of 38 student-athletes from across 16 different states.

As a player at Cornell College from 2005-09, LaDew ended his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,561 points.  He also is the school’s career leader in free throw percentage (88.1%) and three point field goals (240).  He guided the Rams to a school record 21 wins and NCAA Tournament berth in 2008-09, a season which saw Cornell capture the IIAC conference championship with a 12-4 record, the first in school history for any male sport.

LaDew was a four year starter and 3-time team captain for the Rams.  He was a 3-time All-Conference selection, earning 1st Team honors in 2007-08 and 2008-09.  Also, he earned three IIAC All-Academic honors and was named a CoSIDA All-American in his senior year when he was awarded Cornell College’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Cornell College in Kinesiology, Business & Economics in 2009 while earning a Master’s of Business Administration from Bethel University in 2013.

McLaughlin comes to the River Campus after being an assistant coach the last two seasons at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.  Prior to that, McLaughlin worked as an assistant coach at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2011-13 and as the Men’s Basketball Team Manager for Boston College from 2008-11.

During his time at Wesleyan, McLaughlin’s teams compiled a 30-22 (.577) record.  In 2014-15, he was instrumental in helping the Cardinals capture their first ever NESCAC Championship and NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament berth in the program’s 114-year history.  His job duties at Wesleyan included year-round recruiting efforts, advanced scouting of opponents and creation of strength and conditioning workouts for student athletes.  McLaughlin was also active in maintaining the Cardinals’ Men’s Basketball social media accounts on Twitter and YouTube.

While on the sidelines for Wentworth, McLaughlin helped the Leopards to a 33-23 (.589) record in addition to being an active recruiter and scouting coordinator for the program.

In completing his undergraduate degree at Boston College, McLaughlin spent three seasons as a manager working with BC’s men’s basketball program.  He supplied support in organizing and running offseason workouts with the Eagle coaching staff, in conducting film edits for scouting purposes, and in coordinating travel plans.

McLaughlin earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Boston College in May, 2011 and then earned a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan in May, 2015.
