University of the Cumberlands adds Matt Daniel to Men’s Basketball Staff

University of the Cumberlands Head Men’s Basketball Coach Don Butcher has announce that UC alum Matt Daniel will be the Patriots new Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.

Daniel returns to UC after spending the past five year as the head coach at Montgomery County High School.

“We are very excited to add Matthew to our program,” said Coach Butcher. “He had an incredible playing career at UC and understands the commitment level it takes to be successful.”

“I’m excited to come back to a place that has meant so much for me and my family and I’m eager to get started,” said Daniel.

As a player, Daniel was a standout for the Patriots helping lead them to an 85-44 recorded and qualifying for three NAIA National Tournaments in his four years at UC.  In addition to the team’s success Daniel shine individually earning NAIA All-American Honorable Mention and Mid-South Conference First Team All-Conference honors for the 2011-2012 and 2010-2011 year.

Daniel averaged 9.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists for his career at UC however he was a presence for the Patriots during his final two years at Cumberlands. He averaged 13.85 points, 3.17 rebounds, and 1.93 assists over his final 60 games with UC.

Coach Butcher added, “Matthew was a good player his freshman year and improved tremendously every season with hard work and a strong work ethic. We know he will bring the same determination to keep our program flourishing and his head coaching experience will be an asset as we continue to develop players on and off the court.”

In addition to his success on the court, Daniel also excelled in the classroom earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors as well as being a three-time academic all-conference recipient.

Daniel will be transition back to UC with his wife and fellow UC alum Amber and their two boys; Camdyn (5) and Beckhym (3).
