USC Salkehatchie Head Coach Glen Mayo is happy to announce additions to the men’s basketball coaching staff. “We are excited. These three young men are eager to come in and work hard on and off the court. They come from great coaching backgrounds and will be great ambassadors to the University,” Mayo said.
Coach David Gale is entering his first season at USC Salk as Assistant Coach with the men’s basketball team. Coach Gale, was the Assistant Video Coordinator/Student Manager at the University of Central Florida under Coach Johnny Dawkins where he graduated with a B.G.S in Interdisciplinary Studies. Coach Gale began his career at the University of South Florida under former Head Coach Orlando Antigua as a Student Manager. Gale is a native of South Florida.
Coach Mike Gombos is an up and coming young coach with deep ties across Michigan. Raised on the east side of the state in Troy and a graduate of Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Coach Gombos’ passion for basketball has blossomed over time from that of a player to now sharing the game. Coach Gombos spent the 2019-2020 season with Grand Rapids Community College as an assistant coach, where his positive persona and high motor infected everyone in the gym. Mike is always looking to improve upon every aspect of his life, on and off the court, as he lives by a ‘Get Better Every Day’ philosophy which he is excited to bring to USC Salkehatchie.
Coach Matthew Bennett is a young and hungry coach, that always had a passion for the game of basketball and mentoring young adults. Coach Bennett got his coaching career started as an assistant at his alma mater, Colleton County High School. After his time at CCHS he was named head coach at Branchville High School in Branchville, SC. This was a dream job for Coach Bennett as he always wanted to build his own high school basketball program. There, Coach Bennett, had to rebuild the culture of the program and teach those young men how to fight through adversity and win. Bennett is well known throughout the Lowcountry of S.C. for training multiple professional and collegiate athletes, and he has developed strong ties with prospective athletes throughout the state. Coach Bennett is excited to bring his passion and work ethic to the college level and help USC Salk continue to strive for greatness on and off the court.
