Villanova adds Fisher as Student-Athlete Development Assistant

Another Villanova legend is back to help guide another generation of Wildcats.

Corey Fisher, an integral part of Wildcats’ teams that advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and NCAA Final Four, during a stellar career from 2007-11, has joined the Wildcats as Student-Athlete Development Assistant. This role was created in 2013 to introduce former players to the world of coaching and has been filled by such former Villanova luminaries as Jason Fraser, Brooks Sales, Curtis Sumpter, Mike Nardi, Darryl Reynolds, and Kris Jenkins.

“We’re excited to welcome Corey back to Villanova,” said head coach Kyle Neptune. “He’s a great addition to our staff. His understanding of what it takes to succeed as a player in our program will be invaluable.”

A native of the Bronx, N.Y., Fisher first came to the Wildcats after being named New Jersey State Player of the Year by the Newark Star Ledger while at St. Patrick’s High School. At Villanova, he became an instant contributor at the guard position, helping Nova advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2008 and to the NCAA Final Four in 2009. He was selected BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year as a sophomore.

In 2009-10 he was named first team All-Philadelphia Big Five and third team All-BIG EAST. A year later he was chosen second team All-BIG EAST before earning his Villanova degree in 2011. In four seasons, he scored 1,652 points (12.1 ppg) and 487 assists.

In 2011, Fisher began his professional career in Turkey. His pro journey took him to a range of high-level leagues in Spain, Russia, China, Croatia, Israel and other nations.
