Wagenblast resigns as Head Coach at D3 Saint Elizabeth U (NJ)

Saint Elizabeth University Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Wagenblast has announced Tuesday he will step aside from his coaching duties. Wagenblast was elevated to his current role as Director of Athletics in August 2020.

The inaugural men’s basketball head coach at Saint Elizabeth, Wagenblast started the program from scratch when he was first hired in 2015. He has been a key contributor in the expansion of the athletics department, and led the first class of male student-athletes at the institution, which graduated last May.

“In order to best serve our student-athletes and university, I feel it is best to focus on my role as director of athletics moving forward,” said Wagenblast. “As much as I would love to serve in both capacities, now is the right time to ensure we provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes, and a separate, full-time men’s basketball coach will allow that to happen.”

The longest tenured full-time athletics department staff member, Wagenblast amassed 40 wins during his head coaching tenure, and served as the admissions recruiter and liaison for three years. Prior to his time in Morristown, he was the associate head coach at Kean University for seven seasons.

A national search for the next Saint Elizabeth men’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
