The Muskingum University Athletic Department has named Nathan Wahle Muskingum Men’s Basketball Head Coach.

Wahle arrives in New Concord after serving one year as the assistant coach for the DePauw University (Greencastle, Indiana) Men’s Basketball program. Wahle helped lead the Tigers to the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament Final Four during the 2021-22 campaign. In addition to the postseason success, DePauw finished as an NCAA Division III statistical champion in free throw percentage, second in the conference in points per game allowed, and had a player named to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America team. Throughout this past season, Wahle was instrumental in recruiting efforts, opponent scouting, and individual player development for the Tigers.

“Nathan provides a strong vision and high level of excitement for the future of our men’s basketball program,” said Muskingum Director of Athletics Kari Winters. “I am looking forward to watching him leave his mark here at Muskingum and welcome both him and his family to Muskie Athletics!”

Before DePauw, Wahle served four years as the assistant coach of the Wittenberg University Men’s Basketball program before being elevated to associate head coach in his fifth year. During his tenure, the Tigers won two NCAC regular-season championships, two NCAC Tournament championships and made three NCAA Tournament appearances which included reaching the Sweet 16 before COVID-19 halted the tournament in 2020. The team ranked first in NCAC team scoring defense four out of five seasons, with four players earning the distinction of NCAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Additionally, the Tigers held the number one spot in the Great Lakes Region for two consecutive years and ranked 10th nationally in the D3hoops.com Top 25.

“I am honored to accept the head men’s basketball position at Muskingum University,” said Wahle. “I want to thank Director of Athletics Kari Winters and President Dr. Sue Hasseler for entrusting me with the men’s basketball program and its future. I can’t wait to start building relationships across campus and especially with our student-athletes and alumni. My wife, Kay, and our two sons are thrilled to join the Muskie family, and we are looking forward to what the future has in store!”
Before his stint at Wittenberg, Wahle spent two seasons in Nebraska as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Doane University. While at Doane, he served as the recruiting coordinator, the guard development coach, and the team’s defensive coach.

Prior to Doane, Wahle was the varsity assistant boys’ basketball coach at Maumee High School. He held this position at Maumee while attending Bowling Green State University and serving as team manager for the BGSU Men’s Basketball program.

Wahle graduated from BGSU in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management. He is married to his wife, Kay, and they have two sons, Mic and Leo.
