Shane Phillips joined the W&J men’s basketball staff as a volunteer assistant coach before the 2015-16 season.
Most recently, Phillips was an assistant basketball coach at nearby Bethel Park High School, where he was involved in all aspects of player development, game planning, practice, scouting and program building.
Prior to that, he played collegiately at the University of South Carolina, where earned two letters and worked his way up from a practice player to a walk-on before earning a scholarship for his senior year with the Gamecocks. He graduated from USC in 2012, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications with a concentration in public relations and a minor in sports entertainment.
Phillips was a first-team all-state selection in West Virginia as a high school senior at Wheeling Central Catholic where he led the program to a state and district championship as the top scorer.
He has experience coaching with the Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball League and has served as a camp counselor at NCAA Division I schools South Carolina, Davidson, West Virginia and Duke.
