Oklahoma Baptist announced the resignation of head men’s basketball coach Quinn Wooldridge to pursue another coaching opportunity and enjoy his oldest son’s coming high school basketball years.

Wooldridge met with his team Monday morning.

“The main thing is being able to do the right thing both for my family and the OBU basketball program going forward,” Wooldridge said. “My oldest son is getting ready to go into high school and I can’t be involved in all that he has got going on and get the OBU program where it needs to be.”

“We thank Quinn for his three years coaching, and for being a big part of our program’s successful transition to Division II,” said Robert Davenport, OBU director of athletics. “Quinn is someone I consider a close friend and someone we hate to see move on, but I understand his decision to put his family first and I wish him the best.”

While there was no question to choose family over alma mater, Wooldridge said moving on was not without its emotional tug to stay.

“It’s been a unique experience being here as a player and then coming back as a coach and teacher,” Wooldridge said. “To rekindle those relationships and also have my wife working here as well, it has been a family thing here for us. And it was a special time to bring the program through the NCAA transition and into the DII era.”

Wooldridge exits OBU with a three-year record of 24-42, having navigated the program through its NCAA transition period.

OBU had a 10-18 record in 2017-18, its best of the Bison’s NCAA era.

Wooldridge and his wife, Andy (Holubova) Wooldridge, are the only husband and wife members of the OBU Athletics Hall of Fame. Wooldridge is third on OBU’s all-time scoring list, finishing his four-year playing career as a Bison with 1,886 points. He holds the OBU record of 362 career three-pointers made and the single season record of 115 three-pointers made.

He also was head coach at Southwestern Christian University, University of the Southwest, Edmond North High School and McAlester High School. Wooldridge also served as an assistant coach at OBU, Oklahoma City, Wayland Baptist, Missouri Baptist, Lyon and Eastern Oklahoma State.
