Thanks to great sources who had HoopDirt.com out in front of this one last night (DIII DIRT: Townsell out at Newbury). Newbury College made the official announcement today – Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jelani Townsell resigned after five seasons at the helm.
Over the past years at Newbury, Townsell led the Nighthawks to back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Semifinals appearances in 2011-12 and 2012-13. During the 2012-13 season, he led the Nighthawks to their highest conference in program history, finishing second and earning a first round bye with another program-best, 12-4 NECC record.
“I wish Jelani the best of luck in his future endeavors,” says Director of Athletics Jonathan Harper. “He conducted himself with class and dignity as the men’s basketball coach. He was also instrumental in re-building the cross country program. Everyone that has had the opportunity to work with him came away impressed with his professionalism. He will be missed.”
