D3 Aurora University (IL) has made a men’s basketball coaching change. Matt Airy is no longer the Spartans head coach, and has been replaced on an interim basis by assistant coach Tyler Jones.
Airy was hired at AU back in 2019 after spending 11-seasons as an assistant at D3 powerhouse Whitman College. In his 2+ seasons on the Aurora sideline, Airy put together a 23-36 (.390) record, including a 5-17 mark this season.
Jones has been at Aurora since 2018, and also spent seven seasons as the head coach at Concordia University Chicago (2008-15). He also worked as an assistant at DePaul, and served as the General Manager of the Connecticut Pride (CBA).
Aurora is expected to do a full search once the season is over.
An official announcement is expected shortly.
