New Dodge City men’s basketball Head Coach, Brad Witherspoon is bringing a familiar face for him with him to the sidelines for the Conquistador men’s basketball program as he has brought in Brody Gronewold as his assistant coach.
Gronewold follows Witherspoon to Dodge City after working as Brad’s assistant last year at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa where he helped the team post a 21-8 record and 12-4 in the OCAC winning the Conference title.
Coach Witherspoon is happy to bring Gronewold along with him to Dodge City. “I’m excited to have Brody join me here at Dodge City. Brody has proven himself as a valuable assistant coach at this level. His experience at John Wood and with me at NOC-Tonkawa has helped shape him. Dodge City Community College and the Dodge City community are going to love him,” said Witherspoon.
Before coaching under Witherspoon last year, Gronewold spent two seasons at John Wood Community College as an assistant coach where he helped them win back-to-back conference championships and make a national tournament appearance in 2019-20. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Missouri Valley College in 2017-19.
“I am excited for the opportunity to coach in such a high-level conference like the Jayhawk, which is a challenging league from top to bottom. I am looking forward to challenges that comes with such good competition and growing as a coach,” said Gronewold about the opportunity to join the Conquistador coaching staff.
Before joining the coaching ranks Gronewold played four years collegiately with his first two seasons coming at the junior college level at John Wood. While at John Wood Gronewold played on back-to-back National Tournament teams including a National Runner-up team in 2015. He then transferred to Missouri Valley College where he played his final two years and earned NAIA All-American honors his senior year. All four years in college he earned All-Conference honors and earned the NAIA Emil S. Liston award his junior season at Missouri Valley, given to athletes for high athletic and scholastic achievement.
“I hope to continue to influence winning in the program, as the last coaching staff did. My focus is to help guide our players into winning games and putting themselves in opportunities to win championships and be successful as a student-athlete,” said Gronewold when talking about what he hopes to provide as a coach for the program.
