Rogers State Basketball Staff Update

Rogers State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Justin Barkley announced the additions of Cody Johnson and Jimmie Flores as assistant coaches to round out his staff for the 2022-23 season.

“The Hillcat Basketball family is excited to welcome both Cody & Jimmie to our program,” said Barkley. “Both coaches will continue to help us push our program in the direction it needs to be to compete in the MIAA. They came highly recommended from coaches I trust and respect in this business. Coach Johnson and Flores have bright futures in the coaching profession, and I can’t wait to get to work with them!”

Cody Johnson brings seven years of coaching experience to the Hill. He comes to RSU after two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma. While there, he helped the Cougars increase their win total in each of his two seasons. He coached three All-Region players, including Josh Robinson who was the leading scorer in NJCAA Region II.

Prior to his time at Redlands, Johnson spent one season at Kilgore College in Texas as an assistant coach. With the Rangers, he helped guide the team to a third-place finish in NJCAA Region XIV, ranking as high as No. 18 in the nation. That season, he coached four All-Region selections that included three players who transferred to NCAA Division I programs.

Johnson began his coaching career as a student manager with the Oklahoma Sooners for two seasons beginning in 2015. He was part of the Sooner team that appeared in the 2016 Final Four.

Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma in Multidisciplinary Studies.

Jimmie Flores arrives in Claremore after two seasons as a graduate assistant at Division I UNLV. With the Runnin’ Rebels, Flores was primarily responsible for scouting and video projects as well as assisting with the daily operations of the program. He was also heavily involved in player development. Flores began his career as a student manager at UNLV.

Flores also has experience assisting USA Basketball and served as a team assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers during the NBA Summer League for four seasons.

Flores holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction as well as a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNLV.
