NAIA DIRT: Coaching change made at the University of Jamestown (ND)

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm through multiple sources that Danny Neville is no longer the head men’s basketball coach at NAIA powerhouse University of Jamestown (ND).

Neville was in his ninth year as the Jimmies head coach, where he put together a 178-84 (.679) record. Over the last five years, Neville had really gotten it going, averaging 24 wins per year giving him a 122-45 (.730) mark during that time. The Jimmies also made four national tournament appearances in the past five seasons, advancing to the round of 16 three times, and the round of 8 once. Last season, Neville’s squad went 27-7 (15-5).

Neville took over at UJ back in 2015, after spending three-seasons on the Jimmies staff as an assistant coach. He also spent two season as an assistant at Presentation College (SD).

It’s been a very odd time at Jamestown lately, as they gear up for a potential move to NCAA D2 and the Northern Sun Interscholastic Conference. Last month, their current league, the Great Plains Athletic Conference, ousted them as members citing their impending move to D2 as the reason. The dismissal is effective at the end of the 2023-24 academic year. In the meantime however, it was announced earlier this week that Jamestown will move to the NAIA North Star Athletic Association for the 2023-24 season.

More on this change once it becomes official.
