Organization: Global Squad
History of Organization: Global Squad was founded in 2011 by John Alexander, a former international student, who created the program with a vision of helping students living overseas that have a dream of playing college basketball in the US. The Summer Academy provides students in a similar background to John’s with the following:
- Gaining a better understanding of what it takes to play at a collegiate level in the US ● Training with high level coaches to develop their skills on the court and weight room further
- Understanding the independent living skills required in college while developing cross cultural relationships from kids growing up in similar scenarios to their own
Position Type: Full time contract employee for duration of program (June 26 – July 22, 2025)
Description: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teach basketball skills sessions for high school basketball players
- Lead daily practices for your team that are planned out & executed efficiently ● Act as a positive influence and role model for young athletes
- Drive a 15-passenger van to and from tournaments
- Hold film sessions with your team
- Assist with responsibilities on campus (laundry, room checks, etc…) ● Attend the Global Squad staff orientation on June 26th starting at 6:00PM at Goucher College
- Get to know each player on your team well & serve as a positive influence ● Coach your team during 3 AAU tournaments
- Supervise your team during off campus activities
- Lead a team bonding session each week
- Complete an in-depth evaluation for each member on your team at the closing of camp (both written and verbal)
- Assist with the arrival and departure of students from campus during the beginning & end of camp
Prerequisite qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree, previous experience playing or coaching at the collegiate or professional level
Must abide by Global Squad’s core values and adhere to company guidelines
Required skills and abilities:
- Ability to motivate and encourage student athletes
- Ability to be creative and design workouts to suit athletes needs
- Ability to travel and live on Goucher College’s campus during the program ● Ability to work with other coaches and staff members
- Ability to operate iPads and other technology related to film
- Experience training kids of varying levels
- Ability to drive a 15 passenger van
Bonus skills and abilities: Experience working with international students, familiarity with the college recruitment process
Compensation: Compensation for this coaching position is based on experience. Additionally, hired coaches will have free food and housing provided during the duration of the program as well as free access to a weight room and basketball court.
