JUCO NEWS: Ruffing becomes D1 assistant; Hoffman promoted to Head Basketball Coach at Bryant & Stratton College (WI)

Bryant & Stratton College (WI) has named Kyle Hoffman its new head men’s basketball coach. He replaces Charles Ruffing who became an assistant at Western Illinois.

Hoffman has had two stints with Bryant & Stratton (2020-22) and (2023-CUR). During his first two seasons, the Bobcats were above .500 in both seasons and advanced to the NJCAA Region 4 title game in the 2020-21 campaign.

This past season, Hoffman helped the Bobcats to a 29-7 record (the most wins in program history), their first Region 4 title, their first national tournament, and their highest national ranking at No. 11.

“First and foremost, I want to thank State Director/Athletic Director Greg Brander and Associate Athletic Director Ryan Ratajewski for giving me the opportunity and having the trust in me to run this program,” Hoffman said in a statement. “I’m excited to continue to work with them and build off of our success we have had here. I want to thank Charles Ruffing and our players from last year that helped build a strong culture. Charles’ passion for the game brought me to the next level as a coach and I cannot thank him enough for that. I also want to thank, JT Gritzmacher for giving me the opportunity at Bryant & Stratton College. JT gave me a lot of responsibility and taught me a lot in all areas. Jeff Rutter, at Arizona Christian, also showed me what a true basketball culture is and how an elite program runs. Also, other assistants on staff at ACU, Austin Peters and Greg Meier, who are current collegiate head coaches now. Also, thanks to Brandt Danals, for my time at Holy Family College for trusting me and giving me responsibilities to prepare myself to be in this position and to help going forward. I want to give special recognition to Nigel Jenkins for giving me chance out of college to start out my coaching career at Waldorf University and teaching me all aspects of a college program on the daily!

I, want to give a shout out to Matt Majkrzak, JT Gritzmacher, and Charles Ruffing for making this a successful program, excited to build on the program that these guys have made!

Lastly, I want to thank my wife, Katie and daughter Kendall, for being so supportive and being there for me throughout my journey!”

He spent one season at Arizona Christian University where he was part of a conference championship and helped the Firestorm earn a No. 1-seed in the national tournament and finished in the Elite Eight. Hoffman helped coach a top 10 defensive team in the country, which included the Defensive Player of the Year. At ACU he also filled the role of Athletic Recruiting Coordinator.

During his two seasons on the coaching staff at Holy Family College, he saw the Lakers qualify for their first national tournament appearance, earn the most season wins in program history, and produced three All-Americans. Hoffman was also Athletic Recruiting Coordinator. At Waldorf University he helped the Warriors earn their first NAIA home playoff game and produce all-conference players.

The Manitowoc, Wis. native spent his entire collegiate playing career at Concordia University Chicago.
