The Boston University men’s basketball program added Ike Hermer to its staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season, head coach Joe Jones announced.
Hermer joins the staff after spending two seasons as an Assistant Coach/Player Development for the Osceola Magic, the G-League affiliate of the NBA’s Orlando Magic, where he contributed to offensive and defensive implementation, game and practice planning, scouting, and the organization’s player development efforts. During his time in Osceola, the Magic won two Eastern Conference regular-season championships and made one G-League Finals appearance, posting a 53-24 record over two seasons.

Prior to his time in Osceola, Hermer served as an assistant coach and director of basketball operations under Ben Jacobson at the University of Northern Iowa from 2019 to 2024. During his time at UNI, he helped the Panthers earn two Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles and an NIT appearance, while contributing to the development of NBA talent, including current Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green.
Hermer began his coaching career at the University of Minnesota under Richard Pitino, serving as assistant director of player personnel and video assistant from 2015 to 2019. In Minneapolis, he worked in player development and opponent scouting while helping the Golden Gophers make two NCAA Tournament appearances. Hermer also contributed to the development of future NBA players Amir Coffey and Daniel Oturu.
Hermer graduated from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2015 and earned a master’s degree in applied kinesiology from the University of Minnesota in 2017.
