Iowa Wesleyan College has named Todd Lorensen as the Tigers’ new head men’s basketball coach, it was announced today by Athletic Director Mike Hampton.
"We are pleased to have Todd join our Iowa Wesleyan College community and the community of Mt. Pleasant," said Hampton. "We feel he will bring a lot of fresh, new ideas to the basketball program. His extensive background in the tri-state area will be tremendous for recruiting student-athletes to Iowa Wesleyan College."
Lorensen comes to the Tigers after serving as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Truman State University over the last two years. Under head coach Matt Woodley, Lorensen’s primary duties included scouting, game preparation, recruiting, scheduling, and monitoring player academics. He also taught classes assigned by the Health & Exercise Science Department.
Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Lorensen spent three years as Assistant Coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. There, he saw four of his student-athletes garner All-Conference honors, including two All-South Central Region selections and an Honorable Mention All-American. In his three years with UNO, the Mavericks were 58-29 overall and earned both an MIAA Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010.
Lorensen began his coaching career by returning to his alma mater (Grand View University) as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Lorensen spent one year there under head coach Denis Schaefer.
"I’m very humbled to be named head men’s basketball coach at Iowa Wesleyan College," said Lorensen. "This opportunity fulfills a lifelong dream of mine and brings me back to the state of Iowa where I grew up and attended college. There is a rich tradition at IWC and my goal is to build upon that year in and year out. I’m excited to be joining the IWC and Mt. Pleasant communities."
A native of Monroe, Iowa, Lorensen earned academic all-conference honors while playing at Quincy University before transferring to Grand View University. At Grand View, he scored more than 1,000 points in his final three seasons of eligibility. He earned academic all-conference honors three times and was the team’s leader in both scoring and assists in each of his final two seasons.
Lorensen earned his degree from GVU in Business Administration with a certificate in Sports Management. He earned his Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) with a Marketing concentration from Bellevue University (Nebraska) in 2009.
