North Dakota State University head men’s basketball coach David Richman announced the hiring of Casey Matthews as the program’s director of basketball operations on Monday, June 15.
Matthews comes to NDSU following a two-year stint as the video coordinator for Southern Miss men’s basketball. As video coordinator, he was responsible for all aspects of video operations, including film exchange, video breakdown of games and practices, and assisting the coaching staff with opponent and self-scouting, among other duties.
“We are very pleased to welcome Casey and his wife, April, into our Bison family,” Richman said. “Casey is a man of great character and integrity, both staples of our program. Along with being a great fit, Casey has a tremendous skill set which will allow us to continue to build off our recent success, both on the court and in the classroom.”
Matthews also served as the head men’s basketball manager at UNC-Wilmington from 2011-13. He has extensive experience working in basketball camps at the Division I level.
“My wife and I could not be more fired up about joining the Bison family,” said Matthews. “I appreciate Coach Richman and Mr. Larsen for providing me with this incredible opportunity. The excitement surrounding the program is at an all-time high, and we’re privileged to be a part of it.”
Matthews graduated from UNC-Wilmington in 2013 with a degree in sport leadership.
The Bison won their second consecutive Summit League Tournament title this season after sharing the league’s regular season crown. NDSU is one of only nine mid-major programs in the country to post at least 23 victories in each of the last three seasons.
