Mars Hill head coach Rick Scruggs recorded his 400th career win as the Lions men’s basketball team defeated Pfeiffer 90-76 this past weekend. Before coming to MHC back in 2012, Scruggs spent 15 seasons as the head coach at Gardner-Webb where he took over the Runnin’ Bulldogs in 1995 and oversaw the program’s transition into NCAA Division I in 2000-01. Following his tenure at GWU, he served as the associate head coach at Appalachian State. Scruggs has also served as head coach at Milligan (1994-95), Pikeville (1991-94), Belmont Abbey (1989-91) and North Greenville College (1986-89). At North Greenville, he led the squad to a school-record 30 wins in 1989 as well as the NJCAA National Tournament. He was enshrined in the school’s athletic hall of fame in 1999.
