The search for a new head basketball coach at Florida A&M is expected to conclude this week. Last week, we published the list of all 122 applicants who are vying to replace Byron Samuels who was released earlier in the spring. According to multiple sources, the final group includes:
- Robert McCullum – Assistant Director of Basketball Operations Oregon. Former head coach at Western Michigan and South Florida. Has also been an assistant at Florida, Illinois, Kansas State, Central Florida, Georgia Tech, San Francisco, South Alabama, Samford, and Southern Illinois.
- Lindsey Hunter – Assistant Coach Buffalo. Long-time NBA veteran. The 10th pick in the 1993 NBA draft spent 17 years in the league. Also spent time as the interim head coach with the Phoenix Suns.
- Pat Kennedy – Former head coach at Florida State, Depaul, Towson, Montana, Iona, and Pace. Holds a 499-497 in 33 seasons as a head coach.
The search was narrowed down from ten finalists, and I’m hearing that there could still be a sneaky 4th candidate lurking.
Florida A&M is one of just three DI schools left this off season searching for a coach. Grambling State is down to two candidates, and Presbyterian has narrowed their list to five.
All of these searches should wrap up by Friday.
