University of Nevada head men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman has named Michael Ekanem to his staff as the Wolf Pack’s new multimedia specialist. Ekanem comes to the Pack after four seasons at Memphis.
“We are extremely excited to hire Mike as our new multimedia specialist,” Musselman said. “To get a guy like Mike in this position is a home run. He brings a wealth of experience with him from working in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs as basketball operations assistant, an assistant coach on the women’s side at Louisiana Tech, and video coordinator at the University of Memphis for Tubby Smith and Josh Pastner. Mike has worked under some highly respected coaches in our business and is a great addition to our Wolf Pack family!”

At Memphis he was the video coordinator and recruiting assistant the last two seasons. His duties included coordinating video and social media and assisted with opponent scouting and recruiting. In his first two years he was a special assistant with the men’s basketball program.
Prior to his time at Memphis he worked at Louisiana Tech as an assistant women’s basketball coach during the 2013-14 season where he was in charge of recruiting, scheduling, camps, and guard development.
For six seasons he worked for Spurs Sports and Entertainment as a basketball operations assistant for the San Antonio Spurs, and also director of video and athletic performance for the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA. For both organizations, he assisted in practice and game preparation, video, skill development, strength and conditioning.
The Houston, Texas, native graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a bachelor’s degree in 2005. He was a four-year letter winner and an all-conference player for the Bulldogs. After his collegiate career, he played professionally in Germany, Ireland, Romania, and China.
Ekanem earned a master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2008. He holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and National Academy of Sports Medicine.
