Lehigh head men’s basketball coach Brett Reed announced two staff updates on Friday. Entering his second year in the program, Billy Dunn will now serve multiple roles as director of operations and enrichment, while Greg Tarca joins the staff as video coordinator. Tarca comes to Lehigh after graduating from Quinnipiac this past May as a four-year member of the men’s basketball program.

Dunn will keep his same role as last year, and also coordinate operations in 2018-19.

“Billy has been a very valuable asset to our program. The inroads that he’s been able to make relationally with our players has already produced dividends,” said Reed. “Billy wanted to expand his ability to serve our program and his desire to become more involved coincided with the opportunity for him to help with some of our administrative operations. With Billy taking the helm of coordinating our administrative efforts that makes our program run smoothly, he has the opportunity to be more readily available and increases engagement. Having someone with Billy’s skills, talents and professional capabilities is a definite win for Lehigh Basketball.”

Dunn won Lehigh men’s basketball’s “sixth man award” following last season due to his impact on the entire program, serving as a multidimensional resource for the student-athletes and staff (read a feature story on Dunn, here). Dunn has plenty of basketball in his background, previously serving as assistant boys basketball coach at both Liberty High School and Allentown Central Catholic for five years each. Dunn was head girls basketball coach at Emmaus High School for three years and co-founder of Push The Rock in Emmaus, Pa. leading basketball camps and coaching internationally.

Tarca played in 18 career games for Quinnipiac, earning a full scholarship in December of his senior year after spending four years as a walk-on. Tarca started his Senior Day game vs. Saint Peter’s and scored a layup in the game’s final minute. His impact went far beyond the court, which included serving as legislative chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Tarca led a group of student-athletes in weekly meetings, spoke on behalf of the organization and more.

“I’m pleased to have Greg join our program,” said Reed. “He is a young, ambitious coach who wants to use this experience as a springboard for a career in basketball. He is someone who will have credibility as a former Division I athlete and someone who has been highly recommended by one of our former video coordinators who understands the demands of the position. From my time with Greg, I believe we have someone who is going to really engage fully and make significant contributions to our program.”

Despite being fresh out of college, Tarca does have experience as a supervisor/coach at the Grundy Hoops Academy, facilitating basketball clinics for students ages eight to 16 and teaching fundamental basketball skills. Tarca has also interned at The Hoop Group, assisting in the recruitment of future campers nation-wide, building relationships with high school, college and AAU coaches, and assisting with logistics, planning and day-to-day operations of camps.

Lehigh ended the 2017-18 regular season on an eight-game winning streak, going 7-0 in February to improve to 22-2 over the last three Februaries. In the end, the Mountain Hawks earned a Patriot League Quarterfinal home game for the eighth time in the last nine years. Lehigh featured seven players with 20-point games last season, six of which are returning in 2018-19.
