Here are some things that I’ve heard…
- Multiple sources have confirmed that Gerald Gillion will be joining the new staff at Samford. Gillion spent last season as a HS coach in Florida, but has previously worked Tennessee Tech, South Florida, and Florida International. He also spent a long time as the head coach of Breakdown Inc. AAU (FL).
- I mentioned the search at Arkansas Tech briefly on Tuesday – here’s a quick update: I’ve heard that the final group is at 6. Included in that group are two current D2 head coaches with big-time connections to the state of Arkansas, Mike Zimmerman (mentioned Tuesday), and Abilene Christian assistant Ted Crass (and Arkansas native). Working on the other names now.
- A lot of chatter that Missouri-St. Louis assistant Jesse Shaw is the choice at D2 Maryville. Before joining the UMSL staff 4 years ago, Shaw was the head coach at Pratt CC (KS). More on this as I hear it.
- I have heard that the search at D2 Chestnut Hill (PA) is down to 5. It sounds like a D1 ops guy and D3 assistant are in that group. Word is that all 5 have ties to Chestnut Hill in some way.
- Temple JC (TX) has begun the process of letting candidates know that they didn’t get the job. I’ve heard that the leader here is a HS coach from San Antonio. Will know more soon.
