Daily Dirt – 3/24/21

Some quick hitters to start the day…

UMBC head coach Ryan Odom is emerging as the leader at the College of Charleston. The chatter on this one has really picked up over the past 24-hours. Pretty interesting since C of C hired CSA to help with the search – former Wake Forest + South Carolina head coach Dave Odom is an consultant for CSA (and he’s also Ryan’s dad). Sounds like the search here could be wrapped up here shortly.

It sounds like Knicks assistant Kenny Payne will be part of the narrowed down group at DePaul. He and new DePaul AD DeWayne Peevy are tight from their time together at Kentucky. Cleveland State head coach Dennis Gates, Detroit head coach Mike Davis, and Pacific head coach Damon Stoudamire are all reportedly in the mix as well.

On Monday, I mentioned the names that I’ve heard at UTRGV (HERE). I’ve now heard from multiple sources that a current SEC assistant did interview there earlier this week. More on this one as I hear it.

Texas Tech assistant Ulric Maligi is on the UTRGV list, and I’ve also heard that he’s involved at Lamar. I’ve heard from a bunch of guys that Bob Beaudine from Eastman + Beaudine is helping with this one. Beaudine just wrapped up the Boston College search.

It sounds like Florida assistant Jordan Mincy has interviewed at Jacksonville. He has been at Florida for the past five seasons, and also worked as assistant at Louisiana Tech, Toledo, College of Charleston, and Kent State. Not sure of the time frame on this one, but it’s moving pretty quickly now.

I mentioned some early names at Hofstra on Monday (HERE). Everyone that I talk to says that Speedy Claxton is/will be in the mix as well. Claxton is currently an assistant for the Pride, and one of the best players ever to play there. More on one this as the search progress.

It sounds like former George Mason head coach Dave Paulsen is involved with a spot on Earl Grant’s staff at Boston College. He was released by Mason earlier this month after going 95–91 (.511) in 6 seasons. He has New England ties, as he played at Williams College, and spent eight seasons as the head coach there.
